Crochet, Finger knitting, Loom knitting
All these can be done with same yarn. Crochet needs the hook, I think kids aged 8+ may enjoy it. Finger knitting is easier, younger kids can do it as well. Loom knitting was the favorite for my kids, they were making tiny hats with it. The picture below is for Loom knitting.
